Opportunity for sport and inclusion

About the project

The project focuses on the development of youth participation in the sport of Boccia. The outcome of this project should be to increase awareness of Boccia, to create an international methodology for the development of youth sport in Boccia as such, to reduce discrimination against athletes with disabilities and the overall inclusion of athletes in everyday life, to increase knowledge and understanding of the mental and psychological health of the athlete, and last but not least to apply innovative approaches in sport.

The main activity is the creation of a unified international methodology for youth development in the sport of Boccia. The sub-activities are the organisation of webinars in each of the countries of the participating partner organisations and the organisation of a final workshop to present practical examples based on the findings of the sub-webinars. The workshop will take place in the host country.

The outcome of this project should be to increase awareness of the Paralympic sport of Boccia, to create an international methodology for the development of the youth sport of Boccia as such, to reduce discrimination against athletes with disabilities and the overall inclusion of athletes into mainstream life, to increase knowledge and understanding of the mental and psychological health of the athlete, and last but not least to apply innovative approaches in sport.

Guide book

We are excited to present our publication, the result of the international BLN project supported by the European Union. We chose Boccia because it promotes not only physical activity but also strategic thinking and social interaction, making it especially beneficial for young people with disabilities. This interactive publication emerged from 12 expert webinars and 3 in-person meetings that covered boccia's technical aspects, physiotherapy, funding, tournament organization and more.

Our goal is to increase awareness of boccia, inspire new athletes, and foster social integration through sport. By providing equipment, knowledge, and expertise, we hope to promote this sport and improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. This project would not have been possible without the support of the EU and our European partners.

The BLN project also offers potential players another option for a more national-entity focused game. Boris and I came up with a set of educational webinars and workshops in the first phase, with the aim of finding and training new people in boccia. Thanks to the Erasmus+ programme, we have the opportunity to implement the project, and moreover to primarily focus on young people starting out, which is key in this area.

Boccia is an excellent promotional tool with the potential to aid social inclusion. The new format of sporting competition between countries that we are developing will make boccia more accessible to a wider range of people and will bring a new impetus to international cooperation, cheering, pride and belonging, as well as new opportunities for people with severe physical disabilities.
